Takashi Miike’s love letter to Tokusatsu is finally hitting store shelves in the UK today as 88 films releases both Zebraman movies Blu-Ray. The first movie comes with a “Making of” documentary, archival interviews and an introduction by Midnight Eye’s Tom Mes along with an essay booklet written by Mark Player, who previous wrote a book on Japanese punk cinema. The second film comes with its own introduction from Mes, a “making of” documentary and interviews with cast and crew along with a commentary from Joe Hickinbottom, writer of contemporary Horror focused book “New Blood”
Zebraman follows the story of Shinichi Ichikawa, a teacher who decides to dress up like his favourite TV superhero Zebraman. As threats begin to emerge, Shinichi finds himself gaining powers and having to try and defy the original show’s ending of Zebraman’s death at the hands of an invading alien race.
