Mamoru Hosoda's The Girl Who Leapt Through Time Coming to UK Cinemas Early July

Mamoru Hosoda’s The Girl Who Leapt Through Time will be coming to UK cinemas in early July to promote the new 4K release of three of his movies. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars and Wolf Children will be releasing on 4K Blu-Ray later this year and in the build up to that release, each film will be getting screenings across the UK.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is a 2006 anime adaptation of the 1965 novel The Girl Who Soars Through Time. While the novel saw a live action adaptation in 1983 from acclaimed Japanese director Nobuhiko Obayasha (available on Blu-Ray from Third Window Films) it was Hosoda’s adaptation that saw the largest critical reception within the UK.

The movie follows a young girl named Makoto who gains the ability to time travel. She initially uses this ability to resolve menial problems in the lives of her friends and family before realising she only has a limited supply of leaps. As the mountain of problems grows due to her leaping, Makoto has to learn not to leap just for others but herself also.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time has screenings listed between the 5th and 9th of July at Odeon, Showcase and other select cinemas. Time and dates vary depending on location.
